Types of Therapists
Counselors
Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT) are clinicians with a minimum of a master's degree in psychology, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social work, or marital & family therapy. They are trained to understand family systems, and provide counseling and psychotherapy from a variety of therapeutic orientations. They practice early crisis intervention and brief, focused psychotherapy to resolve problems or reduce symptoms in the shortest time possible. They also have the expertise and skills to work with persons where more intensive, long term treatment is necessary to cure or relieve mental or emotional conditions. They also provide counseling and psychotherapy from a variety of therapeutic orientations.
Psychologists
Psychologists have a doctoral degree in psychology, educational psychology, education with a field of specialization in counseling psychology or education with a field of specialization in educational psychology from an approved or accredited educational institution. They often have advanced training in research methods, testing of brain functioning, psychological testing and evaluation, learning disabilities, and other aspects of psychology. They also provide psychotherapy.
Psychiatrists
Psychiatrists are licensed physicians and they may prescribe psychotropic medications, i.e., medicines to treat emotional or mental problems. Some psychiatrists only prescribe medications, and some offer therapy as well. They frequently collaborate with other professionals to manage medications while another type of therapist provides psychotherapy.
Chiropractors
Chiropractors are trained health professionals who use a variety of non-surgical treatments, such as spinal manipulation and mobilization. They often treat patients with lower back pain, next pain, repetitive strains, headaches, sports injuries, car accident injuries, arthritic pain, and other ailments. While primarily focusing on treating neuromusculoskeletal disorders, chiropractors are not exclusively limited to problems with the nervous system and musculoskeletal system.
Massage Therapists
Massage Therapy is the practice of using touch to manipulate the soft-tissue muscles of the body. It is performed for a variety of reasons, including treating painful ailments, decompressing tired and overworked muscles, reducing stress, rehabilitating sports injuries, and promoting general health. Clients often seek massage for its medical benefit and for relaxation purposes, and there is a wide range of massage treatments available.
Physical Therapists
Physical therapists are licensed professional who work with people that have sustained disabilities, impairments, or limitations in their overall physical function. Physical therapists use exercise, mobilization, manipulation, heat, cold, and electrical stimulation to work to restore function, improve mobility, and decrease pain with the goal of re-establishing a patient's prior functional level.

Other types of therapists include speech pathologists, occupational therapists, pastors and clergies.
